LiAngelo Ball song, explained: How LaMelo and Lonzo’s brother inspired retro memes with viral ‘Tweaker’ track

The new year is already off to a great start for the Ball family.

To kick off 2025, Lonzo Ball had his first dunk in three years and LaMelo Ball finished first among Eastern Conference guards in the first fan vote for the NBA All-Star ballot. Meanwhile, LiAngelo Ball has sent the internet into a frenzy with a snippet from a new song that’s expected to be released on January 3rd.

LiAngelo Ball teased the song during a Kick stream with N3on on December 27th. Once the internet caught wind, the song took on a life of its own. Since then, social media has seized on the song’s nostalgic nature and urged Ball to release the track.

Here’s everything you need to know about the song and why it’s quickly spreading on social media.

During the stream, Ball plays various music for N3on as they drive around Los Angeles. As they continue their journey, Ball mentions that he has unreleased music on the way and N3on urges him to play it.

The viral clip begins at this point as Ball asks, “Are you ready for some hot stuff, dumbass?” before playing his song.

After a seemingly innocuous clip touting the track, the snippet surfaced on TikTok, where users couldn’t help but notice that Ball’s track sounds like it could have been released in the early 2000s.

The sound of Ball’s track drew parallels to Nelly as well as the Big Tymers tandem Mannie Fresh and Birdman and many other established artists. This is how a meme was born.

Social media users compared the track to WWE entrance music and also called it video game music, resulting in videos of the track being played with clips from Madden NFL 2002, NBA Live 2004 and NBA Ballers.

Warning: Videos contain NSFW language.

The song also led to some real-life examples, as NBA Twitter used a period-specific photo of Joe Mazzulla at the West Virginia governor’s mansion to explain what it felt like to perform Ball’s song.

On TikTok, the Raptors used the song for a victory post and Tre Mann, LaMelo Ball’s Hornets teammate, used the song for a slideshow featuring his 2000s aesthetic.

LiAngelo Ball appears to be prepared to strike while the iron is hot, as the premiere of “G3 (Liangelo Ball) – Tweaker (Official Audio)” is set for Friday, January 3rd at 4:00 PM ET on the WorldStarHipHop YouTube channel planned.

Prior to WorldStarHipHop’s release, Lonzo used Ball X (formerly Twitter) to promote, sharing screenshots and links to “Tweaker” via digital service providers.

Based on the response the snippet received, the track could be a popular song to stream over the weekend.
