3:58: The Lions get their first takeaway of the game when a pass from Brock Purdy sails directly to Kerby Joseph for his eighth interception of the season. 49ers 28, Lions 24

4:25: Jake Bates scores from 57 to keep the Lions within 4 points. Jared Goff picked up a 13-yard sack on third down after Taylor Decker was blasted by Nick Bosa to end a promising drive. 49ers 28, Lions 24

7:40: The draw is short-lived. The 49ers covered 84 yards in just six plays and took the lead on their first drive of the second half. Ricky Pearsall again ran through the Lions defense for 39 yards and George Kittle rolled through them 22 yards to set up the score. 49ers 28, Lions 21

9:58: Jared Goff finds Sam LaPorta in the end zone and the Lions score the 2-point tie. Allen Robinson made a crucial third-down catch on that drive as the Lions focused more on the passing game to open the second half. Lions 21, 49ers 21

2nd quarter

Half: Jake Moody misses the ball from 51 yards with two seconds left in the half as the Lions go back to halftime with a touchdown.

1:13: The 49ers get the first defensive stop of the game when Dan Campbell goes to tackle on 4th-and-3 from the San Francisco 8 and his pass is broken up in the end zone. The 49ers will have one more shot at getting into the end zone before halftime. 49ers 21, Lions 13

6:13: The Lions forced San Francisco into a 3rd-and-7 near midfield, but Terrion Arnold was picked and Ricky Pearsall made it deep downfield to set up a Brock Purdy touchdown. 49ers 21, Lions 13

10:09: The Lions score Jameson Williams’ second touchdown of the first half from 42 yards out. The Lions faced 2nd-and-24 from near midfield and scored two plays later as the offense continued to advance in this game. 49ers 14, Lions 13

14:53: This struggling Lions defense doesn’t inspire much confidence that they will be ready for the playoffs. Thanks to a juggling third-down catch from Ricky Pearsall and another long catch from George Kittle, the 49ers march down the field for the second straight game. Brock Purdy is 7-for-7. 49ers 14, Lions 6

1st quarter

3:42: Jameson Williams dances into the end zone as the Lions offset the 49ers’ first touchdown with one of their own. Jahmyr Gibbs had 32 rushing yards on the drive. San Francisco blocked the extra point attempt. 49ers 7, Lions 6

8:37: The 49ers drive 10 plays for an opening touchdown, highlighted by some long runs by the Lions’ defense, a play-action catch over the middle by George Kittle and a 4th-down conversion in the red zone. 49ers 7, Lions 0

Foreplay: Finally, some good injury news for the Lions defense. Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin is back in action after being out for two months with a neck injury.

It’s an NFC Championship Game rematch, but this time there’s a lot less at stake.

The Lions travel to San Francisco for a Monday Night Football matchup against the 49ers (8:15 p.m., ET, ESPN).

But the game means little for the Lions’ postseason fate: Detroit will either win the NFC North and secure the No. 1 seed in the playoffs or slip to No. 5, depending on its fate in the season finale against Minnesota. This applies regardless of the team’s result against San Francisco.

But Dan Campbell says the Lions will definitely let their starters play. So expect a Lions team to win regardless of the stakes.
