Severe thunderstorm warning

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for most of North Texas and all of DFW until noon Saturday. The biggest concern during severe storms is hail.

There will be thunderstorms in the DFW area and east Saturday morning. This activity will shift eastward through the morning, with most of DFW drying out by midday and into the afternoon. Areas southeast of DFW will experience storms into the afternoon.

For DFW, the severe threat isn’t too high, but severe storms could bring hail. In the strongest storms, hail can be up to a quarter size. Heavy rain and lightning strike areas are present.

The severe threat is slightly higher for areas southeast of DFW (where storms will develop in the afternoon). Here, the strongest storms can produce large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

Rest of the weekend

One word: PLEASANT! Temperatures will continue to rise this weekend. While I know not everyone enjoys these temperatures this late in December, it’s really hard to complain about highs in the 70s in the middle of winter.

temperatures

The trend for most of the rest of 2024 is high.

High temperatures are expected to be warmer than normal through the end of 2024. But on the very last day, when it’s most important for outdoor activities, a cold front appears to be sweeping through, pushing us toward cooler but closer-to-normal temperatures and highs. The forecast highs for New Year’s Eve at this point are expected to be in the mid-50s, down from highs in the 60s and 70s.

14th day

Overall, the pattern remains quite tame. New Year’s Eve and New Year’s plans are looking cool and dry!
