Liverpool’s Diogo Jota scored a last-gasp equalizer to earn the 10-man Reds a 2-2 Premier League draw in a breathless encounter at Anfield on Saturday. Arne Slot’s hosts were able to recover from a deficit twice.

Liverpool remain top of the table on 36 points, five ahead of Chelsea, who host Brentford on Sunday, and six ahead of Arsenal, who were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Everton and have played a game more. Fulham are in ninth place with 24 points.

Andreas Pereira gave Fulham the lead in the 11th minute with an acrobatic volley from an Antonee Robinson cross that bounced off Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson’s thigh and fired past goalkeeper Alisson into the net.

In a difficult afternoon for Robertson, he was shown a red card six minutes later for a tackle on Harry Wilson that the officials believed had denied an obvious scoring opportunity.

Cody Gakpo equalized two minutes after the break with a diving header from a superb cross from Mohamed Salah, but Rodrigo Muniz gave Fulham the lead again in the 76th minute when he turned Robinson’s cross home while crashing into Alisson.

Liverpool continued to press and Jota beat Bernd Leno in the 86th minute in his first game since his injury against Chelsea in October, helping Liverpool avoid Slot’s only second defeat in 23 games in all competitions.

The Reds had several chances to score the winner in the final minutes in front of a deafening Anfield crowd, including a shot from Harvey Elliott that went just wide and another from Luis Díaz that sailed just over the crossbar.

It was the Reds’ first league game in 10 days after Storm Darragh ensured the postponement of their Merseyside derby at Everton and their second successive league draw following a 3-3 result at Newcastle United.

“A great comeback is very positive,” said Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. “It’s disappointing to have 10 men, but we showed fight and kept trying to create chances. It could have been more, but we take the point and move on.”
