Liverpool are hoping to avoid a pitch inspection ahead of their Premier League game against Leicester City this evening despite thick fog settling over Merseyside on Boxing Day.

The Reds host Leicester in the evening’s opener hoping to maintain their lead at the top of the table, but a thick fog has settled over the region over the last 24 hours. However, those responsible for the club insist that no checks were carried out before the game until 4.30 p.m.

The Met Office reports that fog will continue throughout the evening. Its website says: “It will remain cloudy this evening and overnight with patchy rain and drizzle, particularly over higher areas. In places with generally cloudy conditions, it will be foggy for many. It remains frost-free with light winds throughout the region. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Liverpool have already had one game canceled this season, with the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park postponed in early December due to Storm Darragh.

The Reds face Leicester tonight before traveling to London to face West Ham United on Sunday. They will then face Manchester United at Anfield on January 5th.

Tranmere Rovers’ game against Accrington Stanley has been postponed due to foggy weather. The game at Prenton Park was due to start at 3pm but was canceled shortly after 2pm.

The Second Division club confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter): “We can confirm that the referee has decided that today’s game has been postponed due to the foggy conditions. Tickets for the rescheduled game remain valid.” We thank you for your patience in this matter and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
