The Liverpool v Man United match is currently scheduled to go ahead as planned, but authorities will hold another meeting later on Sunday before making a final decision.

For the second time this season, the Reds are facing the postponement of a high-profile game, with Sunday’s visit of Man United under scrutiny.

With heavy snow falling on Merseyside on Saturday evening and into Sunday morning, there are understandable safety concerns for fans at Anfield.

A meeting with Liverpool City Council’s Ground Safety Advisory Group took place at 9am – and it was decided to schedule another meeting for lunchtime before a final call.

Liverpool’s statement said: “At this stage the plan is for the game to proceed as normal and every effort will be made to get the game underway.”

“Another safety meeting will take place at lunchtime to assess the current status.

“We will inform supporters as quickly as possible. Please be extra careful out there, Reds.”

The possibility of Sunday’s game being postponed comes just a month after the Merseyside derby was canceled due to the impact of Storm Darragh.

A new date for Liverpool’s trip to Goodison Park has not yet been set. However, it is expected to take place on February 11th. The announcement will be postponed until a place in the round of 16 of the Champions League is guaranteed.

But adding at least one more make-up date to the schedule – with the possibility that the trip to Aston Villa in mid-March could also be postponed if the Reds reach the Carabao Cup final – would result in a pile-up.

Nevertheless, the safety of those planning to travel to Anfield on Sunday is paramount. The final decision is expected to be made around 12:30 p.m.
