Liverpool vs Manchester United game subject to safety decision after heavy snowfall | Liverpool

A midday decision in Britain is expected to determine whether Liverpool’s Premier League game against Manchester United will go ahead on Sunday as the north west region suffers adverse weather conditions. Liverpool FC say “every effort” will be made to get the game underway.

Merseyside and the north west had a blanket of snow overnight and Liverpool City Council’s safety advisory group met on Sunday morning to decide whether the Premier League game can go ahead. Access issues are high on the list of concerns. The group will reconvene at 12:00 GMT in the hope that weather conditions improve and the game starts as planned at 4:30 p.m.

“A safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions for today’s game against Manchester United at Anfield,” the league leaders wrote on their X account. “At this point the plan is for the game to continue as normal and every effort will be made to get the game going. Another safety meeting will take place at midday to assess the current status. We will inform our supporters as quickly as possible. Please be extra careful out there, Reds.”

A yellow warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office for Liverpool and Manchester until Sunday evening. Last month the Merseyside debut between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park was postponed due to safety concerns. On this occasion, the strong winds of Storm Darragh caused severe traffic disruption in and around the city.
