The immersive light show “Louisiana Lights: Where the Holidays Shine” has been open during the holiday season for years, illuminating the historic Windrush Gardens at the Burden Museum & Gardens.

Working with Visit Baton Rouge and other local sponsors, the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens and the LSU Rural Life Museum have created a glowing wonderland in hopes of making Baton Rouge a tourist vacation destination.

Jeff Kuehny, director of the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens, and others had this dream nearly five years ago. Once the pieces were in place, it took “months of time to build and complete the exhibit,” said Caleb Livergood, LSU AgCenter Burden student worker.

The magical forest walk begins behind the Rural Life Museum and winds through Windrush Gardens, which are divided into interconnecting garden rooms decorated with artistic use of light and music.

Exploring the trail takes about an hour and no two “rooms” are the same. Highlights include the Prismatic Parterre, a labyrinthine light show with festive sounds.

Walking along the lakeshore is another moment to look forward to, as multi-colored lights are placed on islands in the water, creating a reflection for the camera. Finally, Crepe Myrtle Alleè, a tunnel of light, adds charm to the romantic walk and offers a photo opportunity not to be missed.

The AgCenter Botanic Gardens team designed the trail to be accessible to young and old alike to bring out the Christmas child in everyone. Families of all ages can “ooh” and “aah” spectacularly while on vacation.
