LSU Football vs. Oklahoma Sooners in Week 14 matchup

The LSU Tigers (7-4, 4-3) return to Death Valley for the regular season finale. The Southeastern Conference kickoff against the Oklahoma Sooners is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CT.

Brian Kelly and Co. will look to finish the season on a positive note and reach 8-4 in the 2024 season.

“This will be a great end to the regular season with a team coming off a great win and with both teams looking to finish the season strong,” Kelly said.

Now the focus shifts to Saturday night in Death Valley with a battle between the Tigers and the Sooners.

Here’s what Brian Kelly said about the matchup, pregame updates and a live thread from Saturday night at Tiger Stadium:

“It’s a team that presents a number of different challenges,” Kelly said. “They ran the ball extremely well last weekend. Jackson Arnold is an outstanding quarterback who can throw but managed 131 yards on 25 carries (against Alabama). That will be a challenge for us.”

– LSU OL Garrett Dellinger is out Saturday night against Oklahoma. The veteran offensive guard remains sidelined with an ankle injury suffered against Texas A&M.

– LSU OL Miles Frazier is active against the Sooners. He continues to rehab his ankle injury but will be back in action on Saturday evening.

– LSU WR CJ Daniels was previously listed on the Week 14 injury report with what was described as a “lower body injury.” He is active and will start on Saturday evening.

– LSU honored eight defensive starters on Senior Day: Sai’vion Jones, Paris Shand, Gio Paez, Bradyn Swinson, Greg Penn III, Sage Ryan, Major Burns and Zy Alexander.

– LSU will use redshirt freshman Paul Mubenga at left guard while starter Garrett Dellinger is sidelined with an ankle injury.

First quarter:

– The Oklahoma Sooners won the first coin toss and postponed it until the second half. LSU will receive the ball to begin the Southeastern Conference matchup.

– Garrett Nussmeier opened the first half with consecutive pass attempts. The first pass, intended for Aaron Anderson, falls short, while CJ Daniels catches a screen pass on the second and turns the field for a nine-yard gain.

– LSU’s opening drive stalls after six plays and 17 yards. Peyton Todd punts the ball away for the Bayou Bengals and Oklahoma begins its drive at its own 12-yard line.

– The Sooners’ first drive ends with a three-and-out after signalman Jackson Arnold goes 1-for-2 with two yards. LSU begins the drive at its own 47-yard line. (11:15 remaining in 1st quarter).

– LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is up to speed here with smart decisions early on. On the Tigers’ second drive of the game, he went 4-for-4 with 45 yards through the air. Nussmeier connects with Kyren Lacy for an 18-yard touchdown on the seventh play of the drive. 7 plays, 53-yard scoring drive.

– LSU’s defense played a nearly flawless first quarter. The Tigers allowed a total of 19 yards on the Sooners’ first two drives of the game. Oklahoma is forced to give the ball away after five plays, and LSU will take over on its own nine-yard line.

– LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier drops back on third-and-10 as the Oklahoma Sooners get into the backfield and force a strip sack. Sooners defensive lineman Mason Thomas recovers the fumble and takes it nine yards to the end zone for the touchdown.

Second quarter:

– LSU signal-caller Garrett Nussmeier responded well after a fumble on the previous drive. On the ensuing possession, he was 3-for-3 with 17 yards through the air. 10-for-15 for a total of 87 yards on the night.

– LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is tackled on 1st-and-10 after left tackle Will Campbell loses his assignment on the play. Nussmeier goes down on his shoulder and is led off the field. Vanderbilt transfer AJ Swann comes into play for the Tigers.

– LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier goes straight to the locker room after the injury. Medical staff immediately removed his jersey and shoulder pads before escorting him to the locker room. It will be AJ Swann at quarterback for the Tigers.

– Oklahoma forces an LSU punt with good field positioning, but the Tigers defense remains nearly flawless here in the first half. The Sooners go for a three-pointer, but Oklahoma kicks the ball away.

– LSU quarterback AJ Swann remains in action for the Tigers, but Brian Kelly and Co. rely on the rushing attack to provide a spark offensively. Caden Durham breaks through a 50-yard run, but LSU’s offense stalls afterward. The Tigers decide to kick a 34-yard field goal and Damian Ramos makes it. (8:39 remaining)

– Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold connects with JJ Hester for a 50-yard gain and wastes no time getting into the end zone. The Sooners see running back Xavier Robinson score a touchdown just two plays later. Three plays, 75-yard scoring drive.

– LSU return specialist Aaron Anderson returns the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to retake the lead for the Bayou Bengals. (6:56 remaining in the half).

– Oklahoma drives to the LSU 26-yard line but fails to get into the end zone after a 10-play, 49-yard drive. The Sooners are forced to attempt a 44-yard attempt. Zach Schmit practices the kick to set the final point in Baton Rouge. (2:02 remaining in the half).

– LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has returned to the sideline for the Tigers and will return to the field with the wide receivers after the throw. He’s back in the game for Brian Kelly and co.

– Nussmeier connects with LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. on a 45-yard touchdown reception to cap off a six-play, 66-yard scoring drive. The Tigers take back the lead in Baton Rouge.
