Lucy Dacus announces first solo album in four years and national tour

Following the breakthrough success of Boygenius in 2023 and the relative lull of its three members in 2024, Lucy Dacus is the first member of the trio to officially announce a solo album, her first since 2021’s acclaimed Home Video. Her fourth Full-length album, Forever Is a Feeling, is released March 28 on the Geffen label, followed by a month-long national tour in April and May.

The first video promoting the project for the single “Ankles” was released today. In it, Dacus causes a bit of chaos on the streets and subways of Paris in a colorful red dress, accompanied by actor-model Havana Rose Lui, who plays a security guard whose true role becomes clear in the final scene of the video.

“Forever Is a Feeling” will have an all-star guest list with the other two members of Boygenius, Phoebe Bridgers and Julian Baker, in tow, along with Hozier, Madison Cunningham, Blake Mills, Bartees Strange, Jake Finch and Collin Pastore and Melina Duderte.

The 13-city Forever Is A Feeling Tour begins April 16 at the Met in Philadelphia and ends May 14 at the Greek in Los Angeles. Additional stops include performances on April 23rd at Radio City Music Hall, April 29th at the Ryman in Nashville and May 12th at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

Katie Gavin, the lead singer of Muna, will open the shows alongside Jasmine.4.t. Presale opportunities begin January 21st and the official public presale is January 24th. Registration for access to advance tickets begins today at lucydac.us.

The 13 dates in April and May follow four shows Dacus previously announced and sold out for February, taking place in more intimate venues and billed as “An Evening With Lucy Dacus.” She’s expected to premiere more new material there, although those Feb. 18-24 concerts come more than a month before the release of “Forever Is a Feeling.”

A painting by Dacus plays a role in the narrative of the “Ankles” music video. The new album’s cover features another painting of the singer, done by artist Will St. John, depicting Dacus with the title on his chest.

An announcement for the upcoming release promises that “the lushness of the album’s sound is matched by a new openness in Dacus’ approach to sexuality and romance… The sex in “Ankle.”S‘ remains fantasy – as in many songs, love is not easy, you have to resist desire – but the willingness to talk about it shows a new openness, a new and courageous willingness to express desire.

“I got kicked in the head with emotions,” Dacus says in the press release, describing writing the songs in 2022-24. “Falling in love, falling out of love…You have to destroy things to create things.” And I destroyed a really beautiful life.”

Among the Boygenius members, Julien Baker is also expected to return soon with a country-inspired full-length album recorded in collaboration with Torres; a single has already been released. Phoebe Bridgers has not yet released or announced any new music.
