Luka Doncic reveals the key factor behind the Mavericks’ dominant winning streak

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the most unstoppable teams in the NBA right now and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Dallas defeated the Toronto Raptors 125-118 on the road last night, extending their winning streak to seven games. The Mavs have now won 11 of their last 12 games and Luka Doncic is back at full speed since returning from his wrist sprain.

Doncic has played in the last four games and is averaging 31.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from downtown shot. He is back to posting triple-doubles, having missed his first two triple-doubles of the season in the last two games.

Doncic believes team chemistry is the “main reason” for the Mavs’ winning streak

Doncic has looked rejuvenated since returning to the lineup, and he reflected on what helped the Mavs to their impressive winning streak after the win in Toronto.

“Just great defense, great pace, sharing the rock and chemistry is just great,” Doncic said. “Just play hard, have fun, and that’s what we have to do.”

While Doncic’s defense has been solid since his return from injury and he’s been playing fast, he believes chemistry is the main reason the Mavs are playing so well. Dallas got that chemistry going before the start of the season with a team trip to California to train and spend time on the water together, and that strong bond continued into the regular season.

The team chemistry in Dallas was also extremely good last season and helped them advance to the NBA Finals. The same goes for the 2021-22 Mavericks, who reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011, and Jason Kidd has excelled in his three full seasons as the Mavs’ coach.

Kidd was the perfect coach for the Doncic-Kyrie Irving duo and he knows how to get the best out of both players. Some coaches have trouble figuring out how to handle multiple superstars in the locker room, but for Kidd and the Mavs, that hasn’t been a problem.

Although the Doncic-Irving duo took some time to unite, they have developed into one of the best duos in the NBA and have shown no signs of regression as a duo. Doncic and Irving combined for 59 points against the Raptors, and Klay Thompson also chipped in with 20 points.

This was Thompson’s third-highest scoring game of the season, and his 25 minutes in that game were the longest Kidd has played against him since his return from left foot plantar fascia injury last week. Although his start to the season didn’t go quite as fans expected, he is still extremely valuable to the Mavs.

His presence alone helps open up the court for Doncic and Irving, and he’s also been a big part of Dallas’ team chemistry. He organized a boat trip for the team when they were in Los Angeles in the offseason, and it was a memory he said he would always remember. The Mavs value his leadership skills and the fact that the team is working together so early in the season is a great sign.

Dallas’ big three are laying a great foundation for an outstanding season, and as Doncic said, team chemistry is vital to their success.
