People in Mulugu and adjoining districts, including Hyderabad, felt the tremors as the medium-intensity quake hit the region.

People took to social media and shared videos of the moment of the earthquake.

“For the first time in 20 years, one of the strongest earthquakes occurred in Telangana with a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Mulugu as the epicenter. The entire Telangana, including Hyderabad, felt the tremors. Another earthquake in the Godavari riverbed but a pretty strong one,” wrote a social media user named “Telangana Weatherman” on X.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.

Telangana lies in Seismic Zone II, the lowest intensity zone. There are four seismic zones in India, starting with Zone II, followed by Zone III, Zone IV and Zone V. The highest and most intense seismic activity is probably in Zone V, making it the most earthquake-prone zone of all.
