Magnitude 5.3 earthquake shakes Telangana; Quake felt in Hyderabad | Latest News India

Earthquake in Telangana today: A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Mulugu district in Telangana on Wednesday morning. Tremors were reported in Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh, the National Center for Seismology said. The quake struck at 7:27 a.m. and caused panic among residents.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. Authorities are assessing the situation while experts advise residents to remain vigilant during earthquakes and avoid crowded or unsafe buildings.

Earthquake hits parts of Maharashtra

Tremors were felt in Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts of Maharashtra after an earthquake rocked Mulugu in neighboring Telangana on Wednesday morning. The 5.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Mulugu at 7:27 a.m., according to the NCS.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local residents, slight tremors were felt in Nagpur. According to the district information office, minor tremors also occurred in Gadchiroli, which is close to Telangana.

Minor tremors also occurred in Chandrapur, parts of the city, Ballarpur and tehsils bordering Telangana, a district administration official said.

Chandrapur Collector Vinay Gowda appealed to residents not to panic and asked them to remain alert and move to open areas outside buildings if such tremors were felt again. According to IMD officials, mild tremors are generally felt 200 to 300 km from the epicenter of a quake.

There are four seismic zones in India: Zone II, Zone III, Zone IV and Zone V. Zone V is expected to experience the highest seismicity while Zone II is associated with the lowest seismicity. Telangana is divided into Zone II, a low intensity zone.

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir on November 28, but there were no reports of fatalities or property damage.

The earthquake was recorded at 4:19 p.m.

The quake’s epicenter was in Afghanistan at a latitude of 36.49 degrees north and a longitude of 71.27 degrees east, at a depth of 165 km, officials said.
