RED ZONE GAMEDAY. I’M ANDY KENNEDY, ANOTHER CHARGING ANOTHER CHAPTER IN THIS GROWING RIVALRY BETWEEN NEBRASKA AND IOWA. FOR THE FIRST TIME THE HEROES WILL PLAY UNDER THE LIGHTS AT KINNICK STADIUM, 630. NOW FOR THE HUSKERS. A SHORT WEEK AND A ROAD TRIP IS A LITTLE EASIER, AFTER A BIG WIN NOW, THE HUSKERS HOPE TO EARN A BETTER BOWL GAME AND WIN ANOTHER TROPHY, AND THAT WAS THE TALK THIS LAST WEEK IN LINCOLN. You know, this is really hard. That was hard, right. AND IT TAKES REALLY STRONG PEOPLE TO DO THE THING WE TRIED TO OVERCOME THIS HEIGHT. THE HUSKERS got over that hump and ended college football’s longest scoreless streak with a win over Wisconsin last Saturday, 4425. They suffered a ten-game losing streak in the series against the Badgers. You asked me if this was something big for me. I thought, yeah, that would be great for me. That’s, you know, I know I believe in what we’re doing, but still, it’s great to have some, some representation of, hey, it’s working for us here right now. DILLER IOWA. He gave perhaps his best performance as a Husker. 28 of 38 passes against Wisconsin, 293 yards to go, with a touchdown. And you can tell he’s very comfortable with new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. I think Dylan has gotten better every week this week in many ways. It was just really easy to see because I thought he was just in complete control and command. IOWA HAS WON NINE OF THE LAST 11 AGAINST NEBRASKA, INCLUDING LAST YEAR’S 1310 NAIL BITER IN LINCOLN, A GAME MATT RHULE HAS NOT FORGOTTEN. As they left the field, their players waved to them. We wish our boys a merry Christmas. You know that was painful. BUT AFTER NEBRASKA CAN OVERCOME THE BOWL HURDLE, MAYBE IT CAN GO AND PLAY FREE IN IOWA CITY ON FRIDAY. YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO IT. You know, it’s like they know they’re capable of it. So let’s go. LET’S GO ON. THAT IS THE EXPECTATION. NOW. This isn’t official yet. Just an educated guess. NOW THE WINNER OF THE NEBRASKA IOWA GAME WILL MOST LIKELY PLAY IN THE RELIAQUEST BOWL IN TAMPA ON DECEMBER 31. IF THE HUSKERS LOSE TO IOWA, NEBRASKA COULD GO TO THE MUSIC CITY BOWL ON THE 30TH. NOW IS THE TIME FOR THE SEVEN THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN THE HUSKERS PLAY THE HAWKEYES. THIS BACK IS AWESOME. I mean, he makes people miss and he can burst and go far. IOWA’S OFFENSE LEADED BY SECOND CALEB JOHNSON, SECOND IN THE COUNTRY IN RUSHING ONLY 1,500 YARDS, SETTING A SEASON SCHOOL RECORD OF 21 RUSHING TOUCHDOWS. JACKSON STRATTON STARTED THE FOURTH SEASON ON IOWA’S QB DEPTH CHART. IS THE THIRD OTHER STARTING QUARTERBACK FOR THE HAWKEYES THIS SEASON. The Colorado State transfer completed 71% of his passes and, most importantly, didn’t turn them over in the win at Maryland. “Unwavering” is a strong word at this point because we don’t know him that well, but I really do things with ease and you know, it’s been impressive so far. JACKSON STRATTON MOST LIKELY TO START FOR IOWA AT QUARTERBACK. And while he won’t be throwing all that much as he looks for Luke Lake, he’s the newest and best Iowa tight end on the field. THE HAWKEYE DEFENSE, LEADED BY LINEBACKER JAY HIGGINS. IT IS LEADED BY PHIL PARKER, WHO WON THE BROYLES AWARD LAST SEASON AS COLLEGE FOOTBALL’S TOP ASSISTANT. Now Parker has been with Kirk Ferentz since day one. In 1999, their head coach and their coordinator had been together since I was born, so obviously a lot of experience. HIS FAVORITE TARGET, BARNEY, PITTING HIS PACE, HE CAUGHT A SEASON-HIGH NINE PASSES FOR 85 YARDS IN THE WIN AGAINST WISCONSIN. I told him you have some Tank-Dell in you because he has it. I mean, he’s not very big. He’s nervous. You know, he can walk. HE HAS GOOD BALL SKILLS. YOU FELT IT OUT ON THE FIELD. YOU COULD SAY THAT. Like I was like, “Hey, they don’t like us.” WE DON’T LIKE THEM. You’ve taken this game a step further, haven’t you? Second straight rivalry game for Nebraska. WHO DID NOT BEAT WISCONSIN AND IOWA IN THE SAME SEASON DURING THE TROPHY ERA. NOW AFTER WINNING A BOWL, WILL NEBRASKA BE ABLE TO PLAY RANDOM AND FREE AGAINST ITS BIGGEST RIVAL? TRADITION AND HISTORY THAT CONTINUES BETWEEN TWO SCHOOLS. BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY THEY SOUND LIKE THE END OF THE DAY SHOULD BE THEY WIN. AT ONE END OF THE DAY YOU HAVE TO PERFORM YOUR TASK, EXECUTE YOUR TASK AND MAKE PLAY. NOW THE PAST SIX GAMES BETWEEN NEBRASKA AND IOWA HAVE BEEN DECIDED BY SEVEN POINTS OR LESS. THREE BY-WALK-OFF-FIELD GOALS, INCLUDING LAST YEAR’S WIN 1310 HAWKEYE IN LINCOLN. SO WHAT ARE THE THREE KEYS TO A WIN IN NEBRASKA? This is DAMON BENNING from HUSKERS RADIO NETWORK. IF NEBRASKA WANTS TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO OUT WITH A WIN, I think these three keys are pretty simple. This isn’t rocket science. NUMBER ONE: STOP RUN. MAKING SNAP AT THE QUARTERBACK SPOT IN IOWA CITY WASN’T EASY. NEBRASKA CAN’T MAKE IT EASIER ON FRIDAY. LET IOWA THROW THE FOOTBALL. CALEB JOHNSON THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A NICE TANDEM IN THE BACKFIELD RUNNING THE FOOTBALL. BUT KJ IS ELITE. They need to make sure they get him on the ground and force Iowa to throw the football. Number two is that you have to be patient. This is going to be a very messy, shabby and shabby game. YOU MUST NOT BE TOO OVERWHELMED WITH THE RESULTS, ESPECIALLY TOO EARLY. Just expect this to result in a low valuation and a messy late period. So deal with your emotions early. IF YOU DON’T HAVE MUCH SUCCESS. AND THEN NUMBER THREE AND THAT IS ALWAYS CRUCIAL. WHEN YOU PLAY AGAINST AN IOWA HAWKEYES FOOTBALL TEAM, YOU MUST FIND A WAY TO WIN SPECIAL TEAMS. HOLE IS PLACE KICKING WAS FANTASTIC HERE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON. BOSCHINI HIT THE FOOTBALL REALLY WELL, AND NEBRASKA IS NOW EXPERIMENTING WITH TWO SAFETY LOOKS TO RETURN PUNTS, MAYBE LOOKING TO MAKE SOME MORE GAMES OUT OF BARNEY’S BIG KICK RETURN AGAINST WISCONSIN. IF NEBRASKA COULD FIND A WAY TO WIN SPECIAL TEAMS, THAT WOULD BE MONUMENTAL AND WOULD GO A LOT TO THEM A WIN IN IOWA CITY. THANK YOU, STEVE. TWO YEARS AGO, NEBRASKA snapped IOWA’s seven-game winning streak in the HEROES GAME SERIES. THE HUSKERS WON AT KINNICK 2417. MATT RHULE HIRING THE MATT RHULE HIRING WENT THROUGH THE NEXT DAY. So how about later today? HERE’S MATT MAZZITELLI WITH TOM PATEL FROM THE OMAHA WORLD HERALD. TOM NEBRASKA NOT HAVING TO PLAY WITH THE PRESSURE OF A BOWL GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EIGHT YEARS AND WITH BOWL ELIGIBILITY ON THE MATCH, IT HAS TO FEEL GOOD RIGHT NOW. Everyone exhaled. BREATH IN NOW, BECAUSE HERE COMES THE HAWKEYES. THERE IS NOT THE PRESSURE OF A GREAT RIVAL WHO LOVES TO SPILL THE PARTY FOR NEBRASKA. NEEDING TO WIN TO GO TO A BOWL GAME IS NOT THAT IT’S NOT THERE. I think Nebraska will play easy. I think the offense is starting to get going a little bit. It should be a lot of fun to see what happens. THEY WON THERE TWO YEARS AGO. Kind of the same circumstances. They didn’t have much pressure. INTERIM COACH. So we’ll see if they can do it. Let’s talk about this offense. 44 POINTS ON SATURDAY. THE BEST OF MATT RHULE. What influence do you think DANA HOLGORSEN has had on this team? I think they should sign him to a two or three year deal once the game is over. NEXT WEEK COMES RECRUITMENT DAY, SIGNING DAY. The transfer portal is just around the corner. Sign it up and you’ll be surprised at how many heads it will turn. It’s the right thing to do and I and I think he wants to be a head coach. HE WOULD NOT SAY THIS TODAY, BUT IF HE CAN WIN IT IN NEBRASKA IT WILL GET A LOT OF ATTENTION AND HE HAS A GREAT QUARTERBACK HERE. THERE ARE MANY REASONS FOR HIM TO WANT TO BE HERE. He said he had more fun on the sidelines last weekend than he has in years, so I think the timing is right. IN ORDER. THANKS, guys. We’ll be checking in with our big red zone insider Sean Callahan soon. GET HIS FOUR DOWS FROM LINCOLN PLUS CHIEFS, PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON ON THE HUSKER STAFF. YOU MAY NOT KNOW DOCTOR SUSAN ELLSWORTH. HER NAME IS LAURA MICKELSON INTRODUCES US TO HER. COMES. THIS IS THE BIG RED ZONE GAMEDAY ON KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN.
