Malik Nabers thanks Giants fans for their support during disappointing season

Malik Nabers of the New York Giants, back on the injured list (this time with a toe injury), doesn’t know if he’ll be able to play on Sunday.

“Game day decision now,” he said when asked.

As ailing as he is, Nabers doesn’t want to use his suffering as an excuse to be a spectator on match days.

“Every chance I get, I go out on the soccer field and play with my brothers, whether I’m nicked or not,” Nabers said Thursday.

“I know a lot of people are dealing with a lot of injuries right now in the facility and in the building. They still go out and play. If I can, I’m going to stand by these guys and continue to go out there and knock it out with them.”

He also has a very good reason for wanting to play in an otherwise disastrous season. The Giants’ first-round draft pick needs just 31 yards to break 1,000 and four receptions to surpass Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua’s rookie reception record (105).

Although reaching these milestones would be special for Nabers, he would probably happily trade them for a better win-loss record for the team.

“It’s hard for everyone. It’s not just hard for me. It’s tough for everyone,” he said when asked about the Giants being stuck in a record-breaking 10-game losing streak.

“I will continue to stay mentally strong, continue to develop and continue to try to improve the team and myself. Lead by example. I feel like that’s really all we can do in this state of mind that we’re going through.”

The defeat made Nabers want to rally his teammates even more.

It’s simply about fighting harder to win. Hold everyone accountable. Gather the boys together. The only thing we can do right now is rally everyone and continue to go out and fight,” he said.

Nabers also recognizes that the season hasn’t been easy for Giants fans, who started the year with so much hope and optimism but have been so disappointed that most are just hoping for the team to play its final two games of the series after losing to secure the first overall pick in next year’s draft.

Whatever the case, Nabers is grateful to fans for their support and has promised to put on a show for those who continue to support the team.

“I would like to thank all the fans for coming and supporting us throughout the season. It was a difficult question,” he said.

“But we’re building a lot of fire to push it forward next year. Thank you to the fans who supported us this year. But we have to do better. We have to go out there and put on a show.

“We tried but things were not as we expected. But yeah, next year the fire is burning in me to put on a show for these fans whenever I’m out there on the field.”
