MESA, Ariz. (KPNX/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A man was arrested after posting a video of himself spraying dozens of fruits and vegetables with insecticide at Walmart.

Officials with the Mesa Police Department said 27-year-old Charles Smith entered Walmart on Thursday evening with a can of Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer and sprayed it on a variety of items in the produce department, including fruits, vegetables, even fried chicken . Walmart employees said the estimated value of the damaged food was nearly $1,000.

How do you know that? Smith recorded the ordeal and posted it on his social media.

Smith removed the video shortly after it was posted, but a viewer screen recorded the video and re-uploaded it for online viewing and criticism, at which point police intervened.

Officers said they made contact with Smith on Saturday and the 27-year-old turned himself in.

Police arrested Smith and charged him with delivery of poison, criminal damage, endangerment and theft.

While investigating Smith, police learned that he had a warrant out for his arrest in Tempe, Arizona, for other crimes involving public stunts.

Smith allegedly told authorities the stunt was one of many pranks he films and posts online as a job, which he said earns him between $6,000 and $10,000 a month.

KPNX reported that Smith had previously posted a video of himself locking people up at a Goodwill and another of him throwing food at people at a mall.

Smith told police that after receiving negative comments on the Walmart video, he returned to the store and removed the items he sprayed, but police did not confirm his claim.

Police did not report whether customers purchased the contaminated items.
