Man Utd 4-0 Everton: Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee score as Ruben Amorim takes his first Premier League win | Football News

Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee scored twice each as Manchester United beat Everton 4-0 in Ruben Amorim’s first home Premier League game as manager.

After a 1-1 draw with Ipswich last weekend thanks to Amorim’s defense, Manchester United were transformed when Rashford’s low shot rebounded off Jarrad Branthwaite for the opener in the 34th minute after being picked out by Bruno Fernandes from a corner.

Zirkzee, selected as a striker for the first time in the Premier League since September, doubled his lead seven minutes later with a close-range finish following another assist from Fernandes after Branthwaite lost the ball in Everton territory.

The visitors had made a bright start, with Beto wasting a couple of early chances, but their collapse continued just 20 seconds after half-time when further sloppiness allowed the excellent Amad Diallo to play a well-spent second into Rashford.

Amad took advantage of Everton’s further follow-up work and set up Zirkzee for the fourth goal. He stole the ball off the toes of James Tarkowski, then stormed forward and passed it to his team-mate, who coolly finished and brought even more celebrations at Old Trafford.

Zirkzee’s second goal capped a ferocious performance from Manchester United, who scored their four goals with just five shots on target. The fine win moved them up to ninth place in the Premier League table and compounded opponents’ worries.

Everton have now been without a win in five Premier League games and without a goal in four. The latest defeat leaves them just two points above the relegation zone and in 15th place.

However, it was an overwhelmingly positive afternoon for Amorim and his team following Thursday’s Europa League win against Bodo/Glimt and a performance that heralded the start of a new era ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.

Amorim: We still have more work to do

Man Utd coach Ruben Amorim on Sky Sports:

“The result was good, but we were pragmatic. I don’t think it’s nice, but we did our job, which was to win. We can still adapt and we still have a long way to go.”
