Manchester United: “Everything is so difficult” – Ruben Amorim has to find answers

Not that Amorim would share the blame.

“The responsibility is mine, not Carlos’s,” he said.

“We are a team in good and bad moments. We have a way of doing things. We are working on this and will improve. But we didn’t lose because of set pieces. We lost because we created more chances and didn’t score a goal.

Speaking to Match of the Day, Martinez put it a little more clearly.

“We are so angry about this situation,” said the Argentine defender. “We especially have to work on standard situations.

“I firmly believe in the team and the staff. If they don’t score their first goal from a set piece, it’s a completely different game.”

Amorim suffers from a lack of quality.

The Portuguese entrusted Tyrell Malacia with the role of left-back, but took the Dutchman away at half-time because he gave the ball away too often and couldn’t really offer anything up front.

Diogo Dalot switched sides but his one-goal threat lacked conviction. Noussair Mazraoui moved from his position in a three-man defense to left-back but was caught in a rash tackle on Justin Kluivert, which allowed the striker to double Bournemouth’s lead from the penalty spot.

Further forward, only captain Bruno Fernandes posed a threat to Bournemouth’s goal, and Marcus Rashford was missing for the third game in a row, although he was at Old Trafford to witness the sad events.

“It depends, we’ll see,” Amorim said when asked if the England striker could be considered for the Boxing Day trip to Wolves.
