WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – The last minute rush is underway to get everything ready for the holidays.

Grocery stores are teeming with shoppers looking to get everything they need for the holidays, and malls are bustling with those looking for the perfect gift.

Westfarms Mall is one of many places flooded with people doing their last-minute shopping.

Many people were looking for fun, creative and sparkling gifts in the mall’s toy and jewelry stores.

“No, no, I was overseas in the military last year,” said Gary Henderson of East Hartford when asked if he waited until the last minute to shop.

At the Lego store, Jeff Mitchell brought some helpers to pick out gifts for the rest of the family.

“We were sick last week so we couldn’t go out and do some shopping for our cousin and sister,” he said. “Today is the day.”

Of course, a trip to the shopping center also offers the opportunity to have your photo taken with Santa Claus. The Grinch wasn’t particularly popular.

“With his grinning friends… over cheesecake from Stop and Shop,” he said when asked about his Christmas plans.

At the Westside Market in Rocky Hill, Alan Fiondella purchased items for his favorite salmon appetizer.

“Well, my 101-year-old mother will be there. Whenever she is ready, we will have it,” he said.

Time is running out for all shoppers as grocery stores close earlier and Westfarms closes at 6 p.m
