Marcus Rashford was missing from Man United’s squad for the game against Spurs

Marcus Rashford is not in the Manchester United squad for the second time in a row.

Rashford was left out of the squad ahead of Sunday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.

After indicating in an interview published on Tuesday that he wanted to leave the club, he was also left out of the squad for Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Alejandro Garnacho, who was also left out of the Manchester derby squad, was named on the bench for his return against Spurs.

Rashford said on Tuesday that he was ready for a “new challenge”, two days after his absence from the game at the Etihad Stadium.

Head coach Ruben Amorim appeared to offer him a route back during a press conference on Wednesday morning, saying he wanted the 27-year-old – who has a contract until 2028 – to stay at Old Trafford.

Amorim said he would assess his squad at training on Wednesday before selecting his squad for the game against Spurs.

And while Garnacho was reinstated at the first opportunity, Rashford was once again left out.

Addressing Rashford and Garnacho’s omissions on Sunday, Amorim said: “For me it’s the performance in training, the performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you handle your clothes Teammates, the way you are is important.” Challenge your teammates.

“In our context everything is important, if we want to change a lot at the beginning of something, when people in our club lose their jobs, we have to set the standards really high.”

“To do that, they have to fight for their place in the team, and today the team proved that if we play together, we can leave everyone outside the squad and win.”
