Mark Pope's team battles Gonzaga for OT win

SEATTLE – Kentucky basketball continues to play with fire. But for the second time this season it escaped unpunished.

Despite trailing 50-34 at halftime Saturday against Gonzaga, UK staged an epic comeback to force overtime, with the teams tied at 79 at the end of regulation. Great Britain then won overtime 11-10 to claim a 90-89 victory in the battle of the top 10 teams at Climate Pledge Arena.

The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 56-39 in the second half and overtime to punctuate the stunning win.

The epic rally helped No. 6 Kentucky avoid its second setback in as many games. After going 7-0 under first-year coach Mark Pope, the first game of his tenure was canceled at Clemson earlier this week. But Saturday’s come-from-behind victory increased Britain’s record to 8-1.

The No. 8 Bulldogs, however, fell to 7-2. Coincidentally, both losses this season were overtime; They lost to West Virginia 86-78 in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
