Marvel Rivals December 10 update patch notes: Map optimizations, hero fixes, and more

The first major Marvel Rivals update is finally here, bringing with it map optimizations, hero bug fixes, crash fixes and more.

Marvel Rivals has only been available for a few days, but that hasn’t stopped the so-called “Overwatch killer” from preparing the game’s first update. The December 10 patch aims to address several gameplay issues, most notably the collision issues in Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven and Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface.

As if that wasn’t enough, both Wolverine and Star-Lord get some love through fixes to their voice lines and sound effects. There’s a lot to explore, so be sure to check out the latest changes before lining up for your next team-based battle.

Marvel Rivals December 10th

Generally

  • When playing back highlights and recordings, crosshair deviation was significant and there was a possibility of lag. This issue has been resolved.
  • Changing the location of the highlights would cause the game to crash. This issue has been resolved.
  • Players participating in a Quick Match as a substitute may not be able to see the heroes’ equipped costumes. This issue has been resolved.
  • Mission progress on the Season Events screen was not displayed correctly. This issue has been resolved.
  • Some text errors have been fixed. Further fixes will follow in a future update.
  • After a crash, the game could freeze for a long time before closing. This issue has been resolved and the game will now close after a crash.
  • Fixed some relatively common crash issues.

Maps and game modes

On certain maps (notably Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven and Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface), special collisions on the edges caused the player’s character to get stuck or slip through and end up in strange areas.

These issues have mostly been resolved, but since this affects multiple maps and areas, this bug may appear elsewhere.

In the misty lands of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Hall of Djalia and the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Birnin T’Challa:

  • The mist disappeared from Hela and Storm’s perspective when they activated their ultimates. This issue has been resolved.
  • After Jeff the Land Shark was revived in the fog, his teammates and enemies were unable to see Joyful Splash’s special effects. This issue has been resolved.

At Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven – Frozen Airfield:

  • In competition, if a player was knocked out while moving near a target area, the lighting would behave abnormally. This issue has been resolved.
    • During a game, disconnecting and reconnecting could cause some doors to desynchronize (e.g. a door appeared to be closed but the player could walk through; a door appeared to be open but the player could not walk through). This issue has been resolved.
  • Hydra Charteris Base: Hellsky – Eldritch Monument:
    • If the target area ascends or descends and Adam Warlock uses his ultimate, his teammates would potentially be revived and stuck under the terrain if they were directly on the target area platform. This issue has been resolved.
    • If the target area ascends or descends and Thor or Loki were to be revived by Hela’s team ability, they would potentially be revived and stuck under the terrain if they were directly on the target area platform. This issue has been resolved.
    • If the target area is ascending or descending and Jeff the Land Shark used his ultimate ability to devour characters, they would potentially become stuck beneath the terrain if they were directly on the target area platform. This issue has been resolved.
    • If the target area is ascending or descending and the Winter Soldier hits an enemy with his ultimate and they land directly on the target area platform, damage may be lost. This issue has been resolved.
    • Upon reaching the third round in Competitive Convoy or Convergence, heroes had the opportunity to carry over their ultimate energy from the second round. This issue has been resolved and heroes no longer inherit their ultimate energy
    • When switching between rounds in competition, if the destination was not the final leg of a map, the vehicle’s effective range was not displayed as it approached the destination, impacting the determination of the effective crew range. This issue has been resolved.

Heroes

  • When Wolverine had his Deadpool & Wolverine costume equipped, no voice lines from the ability played other than the Immortal Beast ability line. This issue has been resolved.
  • After Star-Lords Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s MVP animation played, no sound effects played in the results screen. This issue has been resolved.
  • When Iron Fist used pings, the corresponding voice lines were not triggered. This issue has been resolved.
  • The description of ADD sensitivity in Black Widow’s settings was incorrect. This issue has been resolved.
  • In certain situations, Black Widows Ultimate would not recover energy as intended. This issue has been resolved.
  • In certain extreme situations, Captain America’s Ultimate would not end as intended. This issue has been resolved.
  • When Doctor Strange’s portals triggered terrain KOs, they incorrectly restored Doctor Strange’s ultimate energy. For now, we have disabled the portals’ terrain KO assignment to temporarily resolve this issue (i.e. terrain KOs do not count towards Doctor Strange’s own KOs). Rest assured, this bug will be fixed in a future update. At this time we will restore the KO mapping of the portals.

PC

  • Using FSR 3 frame generation technology to change resolution could result in memory leaks and therefore blurry models. This issue has been resolved.

console

  • After equipping the Scarlet Spider costume from the PlayStation bundle, restarting the game could result in the costume not showing as properly equipped. This issue has been resolved.
