With Juan Soto reportedly off the board, the next big dominoes in MLB free agency could fall fairly quickly.

According to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi, starting pitcher Max Fried has received at least one seven-year contract offer. The dollar figure is unknown.

Morosi added that the New York Yankees are willing to offer Fried a seven-year contract.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Fried is expected to decide on a team by Thursday, listing the Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers as potential suitors for the southpaw.

Soto was easily the biggest star on the market when the offseason began. No one will come close to the $765 million the New York Mets offered him.

In that regard, his contract isn’t particularly informative for other players in the upper echelon of free agency. However, his completion of a deal with New York made it clear which teams are willing to spend this winter.

The Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays were all finalists for Soto New York PostJoel Sherman reports that the Bronx Bombers were willing to give him $760 million. It’s clear that all three will distribute some or most of the money earmarked for Soto to other signings.

ESPN’s Alden González reported that New York and Boston in particular “have been suffering greatly from (Fried) for weeks.”

The Red Sox could certainly use an ace of the 30-year-old’s caliber. Lucas Giolito was their notable addition to the squad last year and he is yet to make his debut for the team due to an elbow injury.

The Yankees, meanwhile, need another left-handed hitter to balance their team, with Carlos Rodón currently the only one in their projected rotation.

Once Fried signs, the focus will shift to Corbin Burnes, assuming he doesn’t agree to a contract within the next 48 hours.

The 2021 National League Cy Young winner has an incentive to wait a bit, as Fried’s full contract terms will provide helpful guidance for him and his agent at the negotiating table.
