Megan’s forecast: Cool and cloudy Friday

Clouds will form through Friday as a storm passes north of us. It will be mostly to partly cloudy for most of the day and slightly cooler than today, although temperatures will be near average. It will still be about 5 degrees warmer than normal in the deserts.

A line of storms will impact the Pacific Northwest into the weekend, increasing onland flow in Southern California. There will be more clouds along the coast and valleys, a return of patchy morning fog and a deepening marine layer.

Stronger winds are expected in the mountains and deserts tomorrow with westerly gusts of 25 to 45 mph, strongest in the morning and early afternoon.

A beach danger statement went into effect at 4 p.m. when the high surf warning ended. Although the waves will not be as big as before, they will still be high, with waves of 4 to 7 feet and dangerous rip currents. The beach hazard declaration is in effect until Sunday afternoon.

Mild days and gradual warming will continue into the weekend, particularly away from the coast. In fact, the mountains will warm by almost 10 degrees by Sunday, while inland it will be 4 to 7 degrees warmer, without much change for the coast and deserts.

As we begin the new year, we expect warmer conditions during the week with daily maximum temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal. The pattern of warm days, cool nights and a shallow ocean layer will be the trend as we enter 2025. Happy New Year!

Highs from Friday:
Coast: 60-65°
Inland: 64-69°
Mountains: 52-64°
Deserts: 72-75°
