Memphis rookie Zach Edey late scratch against OKC Thunder

Memphis rookie Zach Edey late scratch against OKC Thunder

With Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins scheduled to take the podium and address the media before the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team announced a late addition to its injury report.

Zach Edey, the Grizzlies’ standout rookie and favorite to win NBA Rookie of the Year, is out with a concussion. Edey was not listed as questionable on any previous injury reports as Memphis’ last game was Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

It would have been fun to see Edey face off against Oklahoma City Thunder big man Isaiah Hartenstein, but instead the injury reports are piling up for Memphis. The Grizzlies already have down star Ja Morant, defensive star Marcus Smart, Santi Aldama and Vince Williams. Memphis big man Brandon Clarke is also questionable for this contest.

Oklahoma City will only be without two rotation players in Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso. Holmgren was sidelined for most of the regular season with a hip fracture, while Caruso suffered another hip injury last week while diving for a loose ball against the Washington Wizards.
