Metas The Facebook and Instagram family of apps were down on Wednesday, leaving users unable to access the services.

The widespread outages began around 9:57 a.m. PST and affected the social media company’s core applications as well as Threads, WhatsApp and Messenger, according to user-submitted reports collected by internet monitoring site Downdetector.

According to Downdetector, more than 100,000 users experienced problems using Facebook’s service at 10:11 a.m. PST, which was the peak of the outages.

Meta confirmed the outage in a post on social media site X, saying: “The company is aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ access to our apps.”

“We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience,” the X post reads.

A separate Instagram-specific X post also confirmed the outage, saying the company was aware of “a technical issue affecting some people’s access to Instagram.”

Meta’s various apps experienced an approximately two-hour outage in March 2024, the same day as the US presidential primaries on Super Tuesday.
