Micah Alejado’s stunning performance leads Hawaii football to Senior Night victory

Freshman Micah Alejado stole the show on senior night as the University of Hawaii football team concluded its 2024 season with a 38-30 victory over New Mexico at the Clarence TC Ching Athletics Complex on Saturday night.

Both Hawaii and New Mexico finished their 2024 campaigns at 5-7.

Brayden Schager was unable to play due to a left knee injury, ending his program record of 33 consecutive starts.

Alejado, a true freshman, completed 37 of his 57 passes for 469 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions, spreading the wealth among 10 different receivers. He also added 10 carries for 54 yards.

He set a number of Hawaii freshman records, including most yards by a freshman quarterback in a starting debut, most completions and touchdowns by a Hawaii quarterback in a starting debut, most yards by a freshman quarterback, and most passing yards by a freshman quarterback UH debut.

Alejado also threw for the most passing yards by an FBS quarterback in 2024 and also tied the record for most passing touchdowns by an FBS quarterback in a game in 2024.

Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala caught two of Alejado’s touchdown passes for a total of 46 yards, while Spencer Curtis had 100 yards on seven receptions.

New Mexico quarterback Devon Dampier ran for 101 yards on 17 carries and 176 pass yards, crossing the end zone three times.

Defensively, Peter Manuma had a team-high seven tackles with two pass breakups for Hawaii, while New Mexico safety Christian Ellis had seven tackles for the Lobos.
