Michelle Williams wants Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland to appear on Broadway

As Michelle Williams As she takes the stage for her next Broadway role, she wishes her former members of the Destiny’s Child girl group – Beyonce And Kelly Rowland – would do it too.

“I would really like to do that,” Williams, 45, said exclusively Us weekly on the purple carpet for the premiere of Death suits her. “I think they’re perfectly capable of being in a Broadway show – absolutely!”

While Beyoncé and Rowland have yet to announce their theater appearances, a Destiny’s Child reunion took place earlier this month where the duo – along with Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles – attended Williams’ first show to support her longtime friend.

In the first act of Death suits her — based on the 1992 film of the same name — Williams takes center stage in a sparkling purple ensemble designed by Tazewell himself. Some of these more glamorous costumes reminded Williams of her own girl group days.

“Especially with all the pearls and some jewels. I know that during some fittings I was reminded of all the times I was bound in corsets,” Williams continued. “I love that about theater, the disguises we can do depending on the type of show. And this show, beautiful, beautiful designs.”

In Death is with her, Williams plays Viola Van Horn, a woman who gives Madeline Ashton a youth potion (Megan Hilty) and Helen Sharp (Jennifer Simard). Williams has inherited the role of Isabella Rossellini in the film and found her own way to keep it fresh and meaningful Us, “All I can do is bring myself, you know?”

Julia Mattisonwho composed the show’s music and lyrics, worked with Williams “in heaven” and used Williams’ decades-long career to her advantage.

“My Harmony brain was very well connected thanks to Destiny’s Child,” Mattison said Us. “Her voice is so deeply rooted in the same years that I became obsessed with musical theater and Broadway. And so it’s so amazing to come here and have her there.”

Death suits her is now playing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater.
