Michigan Snowfall Total Predictions: How much snowfall is forecast?

According to the National Weather Service, northern and western Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula, is facing another winter storm that is expected to bring significant snowfall.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for these regions. It will be the third major snowstorm for these areas in about two weeks.

A winter storm warning is in effect for northern Michigan, including Gaylord, Petoskey and Traverse City, from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m. Thursday. This region could see the most snowfall of any area under warnings, according to the NWS forecast.

Heavy lake effect snow is expected and some snowbelt areas could see 24 inches or more of snow.

Some areas of the Upper Peninsula could see more than a foot of snow, with the most snow amounts predicted in Munising and Ironwood.

A winter storm warning is in effect for much of the Upper Peninsula from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.

West Michigan along Lake Michigan is under a winter storm warning until Thursday at 7 p.m. Snowfall potential could reach 8 to 10 inches in some locations, including Muskegon.

Travel could be difficult in any region where winter storm warnings are in effect.

Southeast Michigan will also see snow Wednesday through 7 a.m. Friday, but 1 to 4 inches of snow accumulation is expected. 1 inch of snow is forecast for Detroit.
