Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth send heartwarming message to Randy Moss after cancer diagnosis

Near the end of Sunday Night Football, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth took a moment to reflect on Randy Moss, who is now battling cancer.

In the final minute and a half of Sunday’s Green Bay-Seattle game, Collinsworth wanted to make Moss aware of the health issues he’s been dealing with lately. That’s Moss announced his cancer diagnosis last week following a procedure and recovery from a form of the disease he developed, which has also led to him stepping down from his role as an analyst for ESPN, effective immediately.

“Can we say hi to Randy Moss and wish him well, shall we?” I mean, we’re fighting cancer right now,” Collinsworth said. “Easily one of the greatest players in the history of our game. When he walked onto the scene, this guy just exploded.”

“I had the opportunity to work with him on different things. You just love being around him. You know, he had a reputation as a player who said, “Ah, he’s a little rough, whatever.” Not at all. I mean, just not at all,” Collinsworth said. “I only think of you. I’m praying for you.”

That led to a story from Tirico about a ceremony he attended in New England in June that reminded him how popular Moss is in the NFL.

“I had the opportunity to be up in Foxborough six months ago when Tom Brady was honored. They filled the stadium. It was a great evening,” recalls Tirico. “Randy Moss came out and before he could say a word he got a standing ovation from the 200 ex-Patriots that were there and the entire Gillette Stadium. Just an appreciation for this great season with Tom and what he meant to them and a lot of people around the league.”

“Do a great job with ESPN on Sundays. So, Randy, we’re praying for you and thinking about you, man,” Tirico said.
