Millionaire hides $2 million worth of treasure in the US – then leaves mysterious clues on how to find it

More than $2 million in hidden treasure is up for grabs after an entrepreneur in the United States hid five chests full of loot and valuables and left a book full of clues to help hunters find them.

Jon Collins-Black – who made a fortune in Bitcoin investments – has spent the last few years assembling a cache of valuable items, from gold doubloons salvaged from shipwrecks to rare Pokémon cards, all with the aim of keeping them in secret locations for treasure hunters to hide and dig.

Collins-Black paired the journey with a clue book, “There’s Treasure Inside,” which is full of puzzles and maps and all the clues you need to figure out the location of the treasure chests.

“You don’t have to be a genius to solve the clues. There is no great cipher. If you have curiosity, imagination and a willingness to try something new, you can find the treasures I have hidden,” said Collins-Black.

The items hidden in the chests were intended to appeal to a wide audience. For example, some hide sports trading cards – like Michael Jordan’s 1986 rookie card – while others hold gold and historical artifacts.

Items include a Jacqueline Onassis diamond and sapphire brooch, a 4th century BC Greek gold laurel. BC, a coin designed and minted by Pablo Picasso and a rare specimen of moon rock.

Also among the treasure is a single Bitcoin – currently worth almost $100,000 and whose price could well rise if its chest is found.

None of the chests are in a dangerous location, Collins-Black advised, and all are somewhere in the open – not buried.

He said each of these was also within 5 kilometers of a public road, while none was on private property.

“I started this treasure hunt because I live for adventure,” Collins-Black said of the project, which he launched during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

“I hope to inspire the same sense of wonder and curiosity in everyone who joins this journey,” he added, according to WKRC.

Collins-Black is not the first eccentric millionaire to hide a chest full of treasure and leave behind a mystery of clues.

Around 2010, New Mexico art dealer Forrest Fenn hid a chest full of gold and jewelry worth about $2 million somewhere in the Rocky Mountains and published a poem full of clues leading to its location.

It remained undisturbed for a decade – and at least five people died searching for it – until Fenn suddenly announced in June 2020 that it had been found.

But Fenn never revealed the name of the finder, and his own death months later left many wondering whether the treasure had ever been found at all.
