Millions are affected by severe weather outbreaks in the southern United States

JACKSON, Miss. – Just days after tornadoes struck parts of the South, the region is once again facing the threat of dangerous storms that have already spawned other hurricanes.

On Saturday morning, several tornadoes again raged in southeast Texas on the outskirts of Houston and caused significant damage.

Drone video showed several damaged buildings in Porter Heights, north of Houston.

Observers reported that several mobile homes were hit and the tornado caused significant damage to a brick home and the East Montgomery Fire Department building, according to the National Weather Service office in Houston.

A Level 4 severe weather zone has been declared for Saturday, covering parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. A Level 3 zone stretches from Texas to Florida.

“This just has a classic tornado day feel,” FOX Weather Storm Tracker Brandon Copic said early Saturday afternoon from southern Mississippi. “You can just feel it in the air, what the environment is like. And it was definitely an eerie feeling this morning and the amount of sunshine we saw – the downpours are definitely very worrying.”

Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are expected with any severe storms developing late Saturday morning into Saturday night. Some strong tornadoes, i.e. EF-2 or higher, are also possible. But forecasters fear some tornadoes could be even stronger.

“These discrete supercells ahead of this line, which will develop across East Texas into the afternoon, pose a risk for strong tornadoes, and not just EF-2,” said FOX weather meteorologist Jane Minar. “We were able to see… several long-range tornadoes of type EF-3 or larger.”

People living in these areas should review their tornado safety plans and ensure they have a reliable way to receive weather warnings. Download the FOX Weather app to get alerts based on your location and 3D radar to track storms.
