Minecraft is certainly one of the most well-known gaming franchises. Its original creator, Notch, developed the game from its humble beginnings in 2009 into the absolute juggernaut we have today, thanks largely to the sale of Minecraft studio Mojang to Microsoft over a decade ago for a whopping US$2.5 billion -Dollar.

Since that sale, we’ve seen very few new games from Notch, which isn’t surprising since it’s now set for lifetime. However, in his free time he develops games and a few days ago he started talking about future projects on Twitter. During this round of tweets, Notch dropped the bombshell that he had a desire to create a spiritual successor to Minecraft.

On January 1st, Notch took to Twitter to ask people whether he should continue with his “traditional Rougelike” or put it aside and make “a spiritual successor to Minecraft” because he was worried that his fans might not actually play it want game he made in a different genre. This is pretty much the first time Notch has so blatantly stated that he’s actually open to making another Minecraft-style game, and he later clarified in another tweet that he’s “100% serious about this.” “.

However, Notch is a very different figure in the gaming industry today than he was back in 2009. Firstly, Notch has been embroiled in several controversies for making statements about LGBTQ people, particularly transgender people, and even claiming that those who are against the Idea of a Heterosexual Pride Day are “deserve to be shot”. He was even banned from the game’s tenth anniversary by Microsoft due to his comments on social media.
