Miranda Lambert explains why she stopped making New Year’s resolutions

Miranda Lambert told us about her fraught relationship with New Year’s resolutions, and I think we can all take away something interesting from her new approach to these normally daunting challenges.

The country singer appeared on CBS Network New Year’s Eve live: Nashville’s big partyalong with many other talented singers. Before the big farewell to 2024, Lambert sat down with Bunnie XO for a short interview, as shared by CMT.

They conducted the interview in Casa Rosa, Lambert’s Bar in Nashville (of course).

Lambert mentioned that she would be performing two new songs from her album Postcards from Texas published in September last year (it feels strange writing this). She revealed that one would be “Dammit Randy” and the other would be a cover of David Allen Coe’s “Living On the Run.”

Lambert explains her typical New Year’s resolution

“Oh God,” Lambert began.

“Usually it’s about swearing less, drinking less, less of everything,” she said.

She then explained her advocacy for resolutions, which I believe we could all benefit from: “But you know, I stopped making resolutions and started making intentions. It’s a little more doable and a little less scary.”

I love the idea of intentions versus resolutions, as one intention can be the umbrella for many different goals. Knowing what you are striving for is better than just a task. For example, instead of going to the gym every day, you can strive for a healthier lifestyle.

This intention takes exercise, diet, and mental health into account without a strict deadline or goal that keeps coming to mind.

I’m not the type of person who makes New Year’s resolutions anyway, because every day is an opportunity to do better and achieve your goals. But setting an intention for the next 365 is useful for guiding yourself, so thanks, Lambert.

Whoever you are, wherever you are, I hope you have a happy New Year.
