Springfield, MO – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will hit southern Missouri this morning, with the heaviest downpours occurring along the I-44 corridor. Localized flooding will be a concern late this morning, particularly near low water crossings and streams. Residents and commuters are asked to drive carefully and allow extra time on the roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, showers and thunderstorms will continue through the morning, especially south of I-44. Rainfall totals will be between 0.5 and 1.5 inches, with isolated pockets of up to 2.5 inches. The risk of flooding is highest along Highway 60 and surrounding low-lying areas. Motorists should avoid water-covered roads and be aware of rapid weather changes.

Looking ahead: Later on Monday the sun will break through but temperatures will fall, with highs around 15°C and lows falling to 30°C overnight. Tuesday brings increasing clouds and another chance of rain by nightfall, particularly across south-central Missouri. Highs will be around 55°F, followed by gusty winds overnight.

Extended five-day forecast:

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny with highs around 46°F and cool overnight lows falling to 27°F.

• Thursday: Sunny skies return with high temperatures in the low 50s and clear, calm weather overnight.

• Friday: Colder air is coming in, keeping highs near 40°F and overnight lows near freezing.
