MLS Cup final is approaching: LA Galaxy welcomes the surprise team New York Red Bulls | MLS

The Los Angeles Galaxy host the New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup final after the two won their conference championship games on Saturday.

The Red Bulls have a chance to win their first MLS Cup title after a 1-0 win at Orlando City.

Galaxy will have home advantage as the higher seed after Serbia striker Dejan Joveljić gave them a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders in the 85th minute.

A header from Andres Reyes in the 47th minute gave the Red Bulls victory and sent the New Jersey club to the final on December 7th.

The Red Bulls qualified for the playoffs with a seventh-place finish in the regular season, thereby securing the final automatic spot in the playoffs.

Sandro Schwarz’s team then pulled off a major upset by defeating defending champions Columbus Crew in a best-of-three first round before knocking out local rivals New York City last week.

Orlando was under early pressure and Red Bulls keeper Carlos Coronel had to do his best to keep out an attempt from Facundo Torres on a counterattack.

But the Red Bulls were in danger when their Swedish playmaker Emil Forsberg directed a free kick into the penalty area and Belgian Dante Vanzeir shot the ball just wide.

Two minutes after the break, New York scored the decisive goal when John Tolkin’s free kick was shot perfectly at the back post, where Reyes headed in.

Orlando became increasingly desperate in its attacks – Duncan McGuire bypassed the Red Bulls defense but fired his shot wide of the goal, and then Luis Muriel’s hurried shot from a promising position flew harmlessly wide.

Ivan Angulo had the last chance of the game, but he too was unable to finish as the Red Bulls, founding members of the MLS in 1996, held firm.

“I am very proud of the whole group. It’s great to create that atmosphere and that fighting spirit. “It’s amazing the last few weeks and now we have another week and it’s not done yet,” said German Schwarz, the former coach of Mainz and Hertha BSC.

The Galaxy, a record five-time MLS champions, have a chance to improve on that mark when they appear in an MLS Cup final for the first time in a decade.

Joveljić saw Seattle keeper Stefan Frei make saves twice, but he kept his composure to settle a difficult challenge.

Alex Roldan passed the ball off for Seattle and LA’s Spanish midfielder Riqui Puig played a deft through ball to Joveljić, who provided an ice-cold finish.
