The main character in “Moana 2” can walk on water and move oceans, but is she a princess?

Auli’i Cravalho, who voices Moana in both the original 2016 animated film and the new sequel, said she is more than that.

“Movies are always representative of their time,” Cravalho told EW.

“For today, we want a young woman to be the hero of her own story,” she said. “So yes, she’s a princess, but she’s also a hero. I like that these two words are now interchangeable.”

But don’t expect Moana to look like your typical Disney princess.

“You probably won’t see Moana in a ball gown,” Cravalho said. “And that’s okay.”

The now 24-year-old actress was 14 when she was first cast as the character. Moana’s journey in the new film, Cravalho told People, is the first time “in Disney history that a Disney princess has been allowed to age.”

“My voice has changed since I played it when I was 15, and now her voice is a little different,” she said. “The songs I sing also show another side of me.”

Cravalho stars in the sequel alongside Dwayne Johnson, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House and Alan Tudyk.

According to Variety, “Moana 2” brought in $13.8 million in previews, making it the biggest preview for Disney Animation to date.
