Video captured the moment a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 crashed while landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday.

Footage broadcast by television channel YTN showed the plane skidding down the runway with its landing gear on. The plane veered off course and crashed into a concrete wall on the edge of the airport before a massive fire broke out.

Other local stations also broadcast footage of thick black smoke rising from the fully enveloped wreckage, which crashed around 9 a.m. local time.

The flight coming from Bangkok, Thailand, had 181 people on board, including two Thai nationals, when the disaster occurred on Sunday morning.

As of 11:30 a.m. GMT, authorities had confirmed 177 deaths, two survivors and two missing people.

Rescue workers say there are no other survivors expected, making the crash one of South Korea’s deadliest aviation disasters.

The crash occurred during landing after the plane malfunctioned. Initial reports indicate that a bird strike may have caused landing gear failure.

Recent messages from a passenger shared with South Korean media described the situation. Her last message was, “Should I leave a will?”

The aircraft landed without the landing gear extended and was unable to maintain its course. Eventually it came off the runway into the military port area of the airport, where it exploded.

The government has closed the runway at Muan International Airport until January 1 for investigations. Authorities have recovered the plane’s black boxes, which are currently being examined to determine the cause of the disaster.

Jeju Air expressed its condolences and promised full cooperation in the investigation. The Thai Prime Minister also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
