More snow is expected in the Northeast and Great Lakes region before Christmas

The eve of the holidays will bring heavy rainfall for many people as another storm system moves across the Great Lakes and Northeast regions, bringing rain and snow ahead of Christmas.

Those in the Northeast were already treated to snow on Saturday, the first day of winter, and a few more inches of snow are expected on Monday and Tuesday. A storm system will enter the Great Lakes region from Minnesota to Michigan Monday morning and creep east until it ends Tuesday evening.

The system has already reached the West Coast, where temperatures are slightly above average and snowfall is kept to a minimum. Showers are expected in Northern California and Washington later this week, and there is a chance of snow in the region’s mountain ranges.

But 2 to 6 inches of snow is expected to fall in the interior Northeast, Michigan and Wisconsin before Christmas Eve. However, it is unlikely that there will be much snow in New York City or Boston.

A white Christmas is also unpredictable, with many areas set to be bathed in blankets of melted white by Wednesday.

The storms are still likely to impact holiday travel, particularly along the Interstate 95 corridor running from Maine to Florida.

Temperatures will reach record highs for this time of year, reaching at least 30 degrees above average in the Plains and West on Sunday. Warmth is expected to spread throughout the week, with high or above-average temperatures throughout the contiguous United States on Friday.
