Now that we have the threat of storms behind us, we are actually looking forward to a nice Sunday. It’s raining on the way out early in the morning, starting with temperatures in the low 50s to near 60, but then look at this. In the afternoon, winds will shift to the west, northwest at about 15 to 20 mph and it will warm into the lower and middle 60s. We’re thinking 66 in the Tuscaloosa area, mid 60’s around Birmingham. To the north, around Holly Pond and Huntsville, temperatures will drop into the 60s, and then the next big thing will be a trend toward much colder weather. Let’s fast forward from today to next week. Next weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there will already have been a blast of cold air that looks colder, but then, my goodness. Look what’s going in this direction. *** A strong Arctic cold front will pull the North Pole all the way to the southeast. We’re talking very, very cold weather for the first half of January. True, the first few days may be normal, but after that it looks really cold, and I mean it could be record cold. In some cases we get to the 6th, 7th, 8th and then up to the 14th and 15th. Our 7 day forecast looks like this here. We will be in the mid 60s on Sunday and Monday, with a decreasing trend and cooler weather on Wednesday. There is no more significant rain this week, no more thunderstorms are forecast, but you will feel the first hint of cold air on Saturday.
