FOR THE NEW YEAR. NOW LET’S enlist METEOROLOGIST KELLY CURRAN TO FOLLOW OUR FORECAST CLOSE TO HOME. YES, AND WE CERTAINLY SEE THAT RAIN IS COMING HERE IN SACRAMENTO. This is a live view of downtown. AND YOU CAN SEE THE RAINDROPS ON THE LENS. CURRENT TEMPERATURE. WE’RE ACTUALLY AROUND 55 DEGREES. NOT 63. Temperatures will warm in the afternoon. In fact, we expect this high to rise back to around 60 by 3:00 p.m. AS WE SEE SOME OF THE SUNSHINE THROUGH THE SLICES OF CLOUDS. NOW WHEN WE LOOK AT THE DOPPLER RADAR AGAIN, WE SEE ACTIVE WEATHER HERE IN A LINE FROM SAN FRANCISCO ALL THE WAY TO RENO ALONG 80, AND NOW STARTING TO CREEP BELOW 80 HERE ALSO. Let’s take a look at a few different places. SO FAIRFIELD THAT YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE MODERATE RAIN. The same goes for Vacaville. YOU SEE THE AREAS WITH YELLOW AND ORANGE WINTERS AND DAVIS SACRAMENTO SEE THAT TOO. FAIR OAKS AND ROSEVILLE. At this hour there will be moderate rainfall as we head further north. YUBA CITY, YOU NOW HAVE A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT AREA OF RAIN MOVING INTO YOUR AREA. It’s generally pretty light in the Grass Valley, but the further you go into the SIERRA the brighter it gets. THUNDER, WE HAVE SNOW. TRUCKEE STILL A LITTLE MIXED PRECIPITATION. Precipitation is still mixed around the lake too. WE’RE NOW SEEING SOME LIGHT SNOW IN THE KIRKWOOD AREA AS WE GO FOR THE REST OF THE MORNING. THOSE showers will continue to track eastward. STOCKTON AND MODESTO. You’ll see people this morning around eight nine o’clock. The foothills remain for a little longer. So as we approach 11:30, you’re still seeing some of that precipitation, especially along the 50. It’s starting to dry out, although a little more at 80. And then it snows in the Sierra. BUT NOTE: AT 11:30 WE MAY ALSO SEE A LITTLE SUNSHINE HERE IN SACRAMENTO. This will be primarily the valley or foothills and Sierra, becoming more isolated as the afternoon progresses. The snow depths continue to fall in the afternoon until they finally fall to around 1500 meters. THEN the sky clears. IT WILL BE A LITTLE COOL THIS EVENING, BUT THE CONDITIONS WILL BE DRY FOR US ON MONDAY. Now, how much rain are we talking about? Well, about a third of an inch. YUBA CITY, SACRAMENTO, VIEW OF A FIFTH TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH. AUBURN AND PLACERVILLE. FROM THIS SYSTEM YOU SHOULD REMAIN BELOW 2.5 INCHES OF RAINFALL. THUNDER COULD SEE 6 TO 10 INCHES BY THE TIME THIS IS ALL SAID AND DONE FOR THE OVERNIGHT HOURS TONIGHT. ECHO SUMMIT 4 TO 8 INCHES IN KIRKWOOD. COULD SEE 6 TO 10 NOW. WIND. That’s another big part of it. So we will see wind speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. Sustained winds of 10 to 25 degrees in the valley and foothills. BUT YOU GO UP INTO THE SIERRA. Today we are talking about wind speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. AND WE COULD EVEN SEE SOME GUSTS UP TO 60°. THESE WINDS WILL CHOOSE AS WE MOVE OVERNIGHT. Now let’s take a look at the seven-day forecast here. Therefore, rain is expected today while it will be windy in the morning. IT’S AN IMPACT DAY. However, we will see a little clearing in the valley. AFTERNOON HIGH OF 60. MORNING COOLER, MOSTLY SUNNY, 53 DEGREES FOR THIS HIGH. AND I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THE DRY New Year’s Eve. Moderate to heavy rain could occur along and north of Interstate 80 Sunday morning. The valley rain is not expected to last long. Up to half an inch of rain could fall. The foothills could see up to an inch of rain. Wind gusts can reach up to 40 miles per hour. By the afternoon, snow levels will drop to nearly 5,000 feet, with up to 10 inches of new snow falling above 6,000 feet and wind gusts up to 60 mph. This could lead to whiteout conditions at times. Chain controls are likely. Follow the latest road conditions from Caltrans here. The sky will clear on Sunday evening. Patchy fog is expected Monday and dry conditions through Thursday.
