MSNBC political analyst Eddie Glaude Jr. argued during a conversation on the network Monday that hate, greed and selfishness are at the heart of President-elect Donald Trump’s political movement.

“So that’s a really important point, right? In the sense that these three components have always existed and Ronald Reagan was able to balance them in an interesting way. And here we are dealing with Elon, the plutocrat Musk, right? Greed, you know, advances its interests, and there’s right-wing populism, right-wing populism, which sometimes takes the form of an emphasis on the American worker, but takes the form “xenophobia takes the form of nativism, it takes the form of hatred.” said Glaude, pointing out that the three elements of the modern Republican Party are corporatists, libertarians and nativists.

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace strongly agreed with Glaude during the conversation, arguing that understanding Trumpism is important to defeating it.

“So we have the collision of greed and hate right in front of us and that is at the heart of Trumpism, MAGAism. It’s always been greed, it’s always been selfish, it’s always been hate and now it’s in full, clear view,” Glaude said.

Glaude encouraged people to understand the cracks in Trump’s movement as he and Wallace discussed disagreements among party members over H-1B visas.

MAGS numbers disputed online after Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, co-chairs of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), expressed support for H-1B visas for skilled workers.

But another faction of Trump’s base, led by Steve Bannon, opposes H-1B visas. Bannon called the visa system a “scam” that “takes away American jobs and essentially takes on contract workers at lower wages.”

Trump has said he supports H-1B visas and confirmed he uses them in some of his accommodations.

Others have sharply criticized Trump and his supporters ahead of the end of 2024, including former CNN anchor Don Lemon.

Lemon said Trump supporters were a “cult” and asked bluntly, “How stupid and stupid are you?”

Lemon called Trump supporters “stupid fucking idiots” and mocked their “stupid MAGA brains” during a hearing Episode of the Don Lemon Show.

“You’re so fucking stupid and you deserve it. You fucking deserve it for being so stupid,” he said. “Yes, I appreciate your stupidity.”
