AJ’s Forecast: Multiple weather systems bring rain to southern New England

AND WHILE WE’RE LOOKING FOR THE LUNCH TIME FRAME AROUND CHARLOTTE, A HUB, BY THE WAY, I WOULD PLAN FOR SOME MODERATE DELAYS THAT WAY DUE TO SWIMMING WEATHER IN THERE. At some point this will spread to Washington, DC later this afternoon. And then we’re talking about maybe some early morning delays here in Boston tomorrow. IF WE TAKE THE RAINFALL HERE STEP BY STEP. OK. THIS IS TODAY’S RAINFALL. Notice a string of zeros, right. WE’RE NOT GOING TO GET ANY RAIN, BUT I THINK IT WILL END UP TO BE LESS THAN A TEN OF AN INCH AS THESE SHOWERS MOVE TOWARDS THE SOUTH SHOWER OF NEW ENGLAND BY NOON TODAY, AND MAYBE A LITTLE MORE THAN THAT, MAYBE A TENTH OF AN INCH BECAUSE THEY WITH BEING The showers are most of the morning until midday. NOW THERE’S A LOT OF RAIN TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. That could mean another half to three quarters of an inch of rain spreading across the entire area. THEN ANOTHER DOSAGE OF RAIN COMES ON New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and that could mean another half to three quarters of an inch of rain. SO, TOTAL, WE WILL RECEIVE BETWEEN 1 AND 2 INCHES OF RAINFALL WITH ALL THE RAIN WE STILL HAVE TO WAIT. All right, NOW OUT THE DOOR. For many of you it is thick fog. The dense fog warning has been extended until 11am this morning, except for the south coast, Cape and Islands where visibility has improved slightly. It’s still foggy down there. We have visibility of one mile in Hyannis, three miles in P-Town. BUT YOU SEE WE HAVE FACTIONS HERE. BOSTON, NORWOOD LAWRENCE AND FITCHBURG. Do you remember fractions from high school? Let’s go. Yes, half a mile. VISIBILITY IN SOME CASES OR LESS. So we’re stuck in the 30s. ROUTE TWO ON NORTHWARD NASHUA LAWRENCE BEVERLY AT 35 DEGREES DRIVE DOWN TO BOSTON, THE MASS PIKE. It’s closer to 40, but then you cross a warm front. And my goodness, look how mild it is. CLOSE TO 50 DEGREES TO THE SOUTH COAST AND CAPE AND ISLANDS. THIS WARM FRONT SLOWLY RAISES NORTHWARD. OH, it will take most of the day for that to happen. YOUR 30S WILL BE CLOSER TO 40 THIS AFTERNOON. Those of us in our 40s will end up closer to 50 this afternoon, moving into the 50s in the south. Here’s the aforementioned rain I’m tracking. Showers along the south coast. MORE SHOWERS COMING FROM WASHINGTON, DC. This area will catch up with us around midday today. IT’S FLEETABLE, IT’S LIGHT, BUT THEN YOU HAVE TO CARRY THE UMBRELLA. We have to get through this mess. And that’s ours for tomorrow morning. So for today dense fog, showers, slowly rising. TEMPERATURES OUTSIDE TONIGHT OF 40°C AND 50°C. It’s raining towards morning. As temperatures rise it will become cloudy. And then for the commute tomorrow morning. THAT’S WHY WE CALL TOMORROW AN IMPACT. WEATHER DAY. At times there will be some moderate to heavy rain. It’s a fast band that comes through at the end of the morning commute. AROUND NOON WE CLIMB INTO THE UPPER 50S. ANY of these downpours could trigger some gusty winds in excess of 40 mph. THEN THERE WILL BE SOME SUNSHINE BACK. Some drier weather on Tuesday and from Tuesday evening into Wednesday. On New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, more rain I
