Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized after she was injured while traveling with a congressional delegation in Luxembourg, her office said Friday.

Pelosi, 84, “sustained an injury while on official duty and was taken to the hospital for evaluation,” her spokesman Ian Krager said in a news release.

The Democratic speaker emeritus and current U.S. representative from California “is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” Krager said.

“She continues to work and regrets that she cannot take part in the remaining CODEL events,” he said.

The spokesperson did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for further details on the incident.

The bipartisan delegation was scheduled to travel to Belgium and Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, when German and Allied forces clashed in the Ardennes region during World War II.

U.S. lawmakers are prepared to attend anniversary commemorations on Friday and Saturday “along with veterans and their families, active military personnel, government and military officials, and foreign dignitaries,” Pelosi’s office said ahead of the trip.

Krager said in Friday’s statement that Pelosi “expresses her thanks and praise to our veterans and her gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in peace in Europe.”

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi had the personal and official honor of traveling with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II – including her Uncle Johnny. She looks forward to returning home to the United States soon,” the spokesperson said.
