Well, if it wasn’t clear beforehand (it wasn’t), the Brooklyn Nets are devastated. On Saturday, they traded Tank opponent Dennis Schroder for two second-round picks. Not convinced? Here’s what Sean Marks said about the trade.

“Missing him is hard, but these are the decisions where your ultimate goal is long-term, sustainable success. So we are weighing up many factors here. It’s never easy to see one of your own people go. But at the same time, if you look at the bigger picture here, it’s what’s best for our organization in the long run.”

This comes on the same day that Sean Marks sat on the sidelines and watched top prospect Dylan Harper score a game-winning goal against Seton Hall. It’s not so much about the return, but rather the clear decision to trade one of the team’s leaders and top scorers for a second-round pick.

Anyway…the Nets play the Cavs tonight. It’s Kenny Atkinson’s first game as head coach in Brooklyn. It’s safe to say he’s feeling good at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 22-4 record.

Game preview | Jordan Greene

Injuries: Bojan Bogdanovic, Cam Thomas and Ziaire Williams are injured. Reece Beekman is out, Jaylen Martin and Dariq Whitehead are on Long Island and Tyrese Martin is questionable as he may also spend time on Long Island.

Emoji Bates (torn meniscus) and Max Strus (ankle) are out for the Cavs.

The game: In the first game of the “Year of the Tank,” the Nets will have to defend if they want to keep this game close. With Cam Thomas still out and Dennis Schroeder now a Golden State Warrior, the Nets will be hoping to have the Keon Johnsons and Shake Miltons of the world running around and keeping up with the exciting backcourt of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. They can also add former Net Caris Levert as a catalyst who can also cause trouble.
