Milwaukee Bucks star point guard Damian Lillard added a unique accolade to his resume on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Lillard agreed to a lifetime contract extension with Adidas, becoming just the fourth active player in the NBA to sign a lifetime shoe endorsement deal. Lillard joins Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who is signed to Under Armour/Curry Brand, as well as Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who are both at Nike are under contract.

Lillard originally signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Adidas when he was drafted into the NBA by the Portland Trail Blazers with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft, then negotiated a new 10-year deal with the company in 2014 worth up to $100 million. Dollar. Earlier this year, Adidas announced that the athletic field at the company’s Portland headquarters was named after Lillard.

Charania noted that Lillard’s new contract brings his career salaries from his on-court and footwear contracts to over $600 million. Veteran floor general representative Aaron Goodwin of Goodwin Sports Management had been negotiating a new contract with Adidas since his previous contract expired last season. Goodwin also negotiated James and Durant’s first contracts with Nike.

The lifetime shoe deal is the continuation of a monumental week for Lillard, as he helped lead the Bucks past the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the NBA Cup championship on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. The 34-year-old scored 23 points in the 97-81 win and is now averaging 25.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game this season.

After a disappointing exit in the first round of the playoffs last season due to injuries to Lillard, star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and other key players, the Bucks have entered the discussion as the Eastern Conference’s top title contender. If Lillard continues to play at a high level, Milwaukee has a good chance of returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since their last title win in 2021.

The Bucks (14-11) return to play at the Cleveland Cavaliers (23-4) on Friday.
