The Golden State Warriors are reportedly hiring a veteran point guard to bolster a playoff-caliber roster.

According to ESPN Shams CharaniaThe Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a deal to send Dennis Schröder and a second-round pick to Golden State in return for De’Anthony Melton and three second-round picks.

NBA insider Jake Fischer noted that there was talk of the Nets including Cam Johnson in a potential deal, but instead opted to only include Schröder and a second-round pick.

Brian Lewis from The New York Post reported earlier this week that the Nets would only trade Schröder if they received at least a first-round pick in return. Even though Brooklyn didn’t get the first-round pick it wanted in the first round, it still received some valuable assets that will be crucial to its rebuild.

The 31-year-old Schröder is off to an excellent start to the year, averaging 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game through the first 23 games, leading Brooklyn to a 10-15 start that has made it a surprising beacon of hope for made the playoffs.

Schröder is on an expiring contract that will make him $13.03 million this season, making him an affordable but valuable asset, especially for a team like Golden State with championship aspirations.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Nets have made “pretty much everyone” on their roster available for trade, so the Schröder deal could be the first of many as Brooklyn tries to come clean.

The Warriors got off to a fantastic 12-3 start to the year, but have struggled since then, losing seven of their last nine games, dropping them to 14-10. The addition of Schröder could help revitalize their season and help them advance to the finals.
