NBA results: Warriors lost to De’Aaron Fox-less Kings 129-99

On Saturday, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies – despite Steph Curry not playing – giving them their first winning streak since November 22nd. On Sunday, the Dubs brought Curry back and hosted a Sacramento Kings team that played without De “Aaron Fox. It was a chance to snap their first three-game winning streak since November 15th and only their third this season.

They screwed up and got screwed.

The Warriors never led in a completely uncontested affair against a Kings team that, after losing the first game since head coach Mike Brown was fired (and falling to 13-19), has now rattled off four straight wins.

It was almost over when it began. The Kings took a 7-0 lead and the Warriors never really recovered. Curry didn’t score until 7:34 into the quarter, and Sacramento extended the lead to 18 points at one point as the Dubs played remarkably reckless basketball, committing a horrific eight turnovers in the quarter…each seemingly more head-scratching than the last. At the end of the quarter, the Warriors trailed 36-21.

However, they came out firing early in the second quarter. The offense got going as the team went on a run and cut the deficit to just four points after about three minutes. But the Kings were unfazed and hit the Warriors back in the mouth, whereupon they responded with an 11-0 run. It was still a good offensive quarter for Golden State, but their defensive performance couldn’t match the offensive performance as they were outscored 39-30 in the frame, giving Sacramento a lopsided 75-51 halftime lead.

Any hope the Warriors had in the third quarter, as they made all their runs, was quickly dissipated. They still couldn’t stop Sacramento and never really made a big breakthrough. There was a brief moment of life about halfway through the quarter, but Golden State never really threatened the big lead Sacramento had built.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Steve Kerr had already waved the white flag. Gui Santos and Pat Spencer, who had not yet taken part in the game, were on the court to start the final frame. Together with the rarely used trio Moses Moody, Kevon Looney and Lindy Waters III, they played the entire fourth quarter. It may have been the best the Warriors played, but it certainly wasn’t enough to make anyone dream that the game would be competitive, and Sacramento cruised to a 129-99 win.

Curry led the Warriors with 26 points and seven rebounds while going 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-8 from three-point range, despite committing four turnovers Assists scored. Andrew Wiggins had 18 points while Moody, finally on a good run, scored 13 points.

But the turnovers bothered the Warriors, as they committed 22 turnovers, which the Kings turned into 34 points. Well, turnovers and brilliant play from Malik Monk (26 points and 12 assists) and Domantas Sabonis (22 points and 13 rebounds).

The Dubs, who are between the ages of 18 and 17, now get a day off before they finish their six-game stretch at home on Tuesday night against a Miami Heat team that’s a bit of a mess. Golden State needs to win this game to be successful at home before embarking on a four-game road trip.
