NBC 7 First Alarm – NBC 7 San Diego

Now it’s time to deliver the bad news: There’s no chance of a white Christmas in America’s Finest City unless you count on fog or plan to go above 7,000 feet, which is impossible in San Diego County.

A strong storm to our north will sweep a cold front across much of the state this week, and that cold front is expected to bring gusty winds to San Diego as well as cooler weather and the possibility of light rain showers on Christmas Eve.

Inland valleys will be partly cloudy through the week, with a slight chance of showers Tuesday afternoon and highs in the mid 60s to low 70s. Light showers are also expected in mountain areas through Tuesday, with partly cloudy weather and high temperatures in the low 60s.

As for precipitation, the county could receive between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain. The system should push through quickly and give us dry weather for Christmas.

Dry weather prevails towards the end of the holiday week.

Meanwhile, a high surf warning is in effect until Wednesday morning due to large waves ranging from 6 to 10 feet and some as high as 13 feet. There is also a high risk of strong currents, making it dangerous for both surfers and swimmers. The surf is causing minor flooding in low lying areas along the beach, boardwalks and parking lots.

Officials advised inexperienced swimmers and surfers to stay away from the water.
