NBC News trolled for headline about ‘historically affordable’ Thanksgiving costs: ‘That’s bullshit—-‘

An NBC News article pointing out that the cost of Thanksgiving dinner is historically low, allowing a 10-person gathering to feed themselves for less than $60, was criticized this week by conservatives in deleted from social media.

“You may not know it by looking at sticker prices on grocery shelves, but Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper than it has been in years.” NBC News wrote citing data from the American Farm Bureau Federation.

“The cost of this year’s holiday feast – an estimated $58.08 for a 10-person gathering, or $5.81 per person – has fallen 5% since last year, the lowest level since 2021.”

The headline of the article read, “Thanksgiving dinner is historically affordable this year.”

Conservatives on social media were quick to criticize the reporting and the suggestion that Americans will see relief from inflation at Thanksgiving dinner this year.

“I just bought a single turkey for $85,” said Grabien founder Tom Elliot Posted on X

“It costs $60 for a family of four to eat at McDonalds,” says author John LeFevre Posted on X. “But NBC News would have you believe that Thanksgiving dinner for 10 is $58 — the cheapest in 40 years.”

The Commerce Department reported Wednesday that the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index rose 0.2% in October and 2.3% year-on-year, and inflation rose slightly in October as prices remained stubbornly high for consumers.

Food prices rose 0.2% on a monthly basis in October and 2.1% year-on-year. Eating out grew 3.8% annually, while eating at home only increased 1.1%. The largest food price increase was for eggs: in October prices rose 30.4% year-on-year, although they fell 6.5% from September.
